Pinch Pot: Vase

Eye Level

Bird's Eye View
slip and score - To score your clay, you make the edge that you are going to connect with a coil or other clay jagged by scratching it. Then you add slip, which is a mixture of clay and water, to the jagged edges that you want to connect. This process helps hold the two pieces of clay together while they dry.

In order to make my piece symmetrical, I first had to make all of my clay an even width all the way around. Then I made sure the bottom was flat, so I had to push on the bottom/sides until it was equal.  After that I made the top equal in height by cutting off bits that were taller than the rest.  Then I used a sponge on the top edge to create a rounded lip on the whole top.
